New Nurses and Time Management
Let's embark on a time management adventure where every tick of the clock becomes a triumph in productivity and balance! β°β¨
Manage your time as a nurse
Picture this: You're the captain of your ship, navigating through a sea of tasks. But here's the secret compass to success - start with the stars (your priority tasks) and sail through the waves (the lower priority ones) to ensure every minute counts. It's not just about getting things done; it's about mastering the art of weaving your time into a tapestry of efficiency and well-being. π’π
Effective time management boosts productivity, but let's talk about the real treasure chest at the end of this journey - the gift of prioritizing your time like a seasoned explorer. πβοΈ
You are the captain of your ship
Prior to getting on board at work lets make sure we have a good morning! Do these things consistently (Get everything ready in advance).
Have a set wake-up time.
Eat breakfast.
Listen to something stimulating.
Get some fresh air.
I can say I have seen this in person. My father always got up at the same time and went to bed at the same time every day. I knew if I called before 6:30am he would still be asleep. Since becoming self-employed, I have gotten up (7am) and gone to bed at the same time (10pm). But friends and family are told that I go to bed at 9pm so that I have a quiet time before bed, and so I can take care of myself and my ship (house).
Try this: Eat your lunch outside.
Imagine this: Amidst the hustle and bustle of your daily nursing adventures, you carve out a sacred sanctuary - a moment to savor a meal, bask in the sunshine, or simply wander through the wonders of nature. It's not just a break; it's a rejuvenating voyage for your mind, body, and soul. πΏπ΄
So, let's hoist our sails high, chart our course with precision, and make time our trusty companion on this voyage called life. Because when you master time management, you're not just seizing the day - you're crafting a masterpiece of moments that truly matter. ππ #TimeManagementTriumphs #SailToSuccess #MomentsThatMatter
Nurse task list
Here is a list of tasks for a regular day that you could use:

Dressing__________ TECH
Bed made_________TECH
Accuchecks
Pick up trays
IV
Dressing changes
Foley cath emptied, inserted, removed
Colostomy emptied, changed, leaking
OR when are they scheduled
Xray scheduled

OR preoperative checklist is done and signed off
Return from OR assessment upon arrival
Vitals after return from OR
Up to bathroom
Up to chair
Walk in hall
Orders to take off
Supplies needed for the procedure
You will need to make a list of priority tasks for the day. Take your list of tasks and determine which one(s) has priority. The priority may be for a certain time in the day, say 11am, when the doctor comes on board to do a procedure. Have those supplies he will need ready and in the room. If you are unsure of what he needs, ask him or ask an older nurse sailor for more information.
Another time consumer could be having two tests scheduled at the same time, and one involves a surgical patient who needs be transported. Have everything done and the chart signed off at the desk while waiting for the transport. You can do the other task of sending someone to an MRI while they take the preoperative patient to the OR. Another priority may be one which takes the most time, a dressing change. Always leave the longest tasks to last. That way when you're done, you chart and go home after the report. Well nurse sailor, I think youβre ready!
Use delegation when appropriate.
Ahoy, fellow time traveler of the nursing realm! πβ°
Imagine your day as a grand voyage aboard the good ship, Efficiency, charting a course through the seas of responsibility. You've got your trusty map of priorities in hand, ready to tackle each task with the precision of a seasoned navigator. But beware - just as the ocean is vast and unpredictable, so too is the world of nursing. π’π
As you set sail on your workday adventure, your list of tasks gleams like treasure on the horizon. From communicating with the previous shift for a thorough report to ensuring timely pain medications and fielding phone calls from concerned family members and vigilant doctors, you've thought of it all. Or so you think... βοΈππ
But wait - what's that on the horizon? A surprise storm of unexpected tasks, threatens to rock your boat of perfect plans! These rogue waves can toss even the most seasoned sailor off course, whether it's a sudden call for assistance, an urgent patient need, or an unforeseen twist in the day's events. πͺοΈπ
But fear not, brave navigator! For every stormy sea has its silver lining. Embrace the chaos, allow for delays, and remember - it's all part of life's rich tapestry, especially in the exhilarating world of nursing. So, batten down the hatches, adjust your sails, and sail forth with the resilience and grace of a true nursing mariner. Smooth seas may not always be guaranteed, but your ability to navigate the unexpected will always steer you true. βοΈπ #NavigatingNurseLife #EmbraceTheChaos #SailOnStrong
